Head pathologies

Bruxism

What is it?

It is a quite frequent pathology of the TMJ in which an involuntary activation of the buccal muscles occurs. It causes tension, jaw pain, dental movement that causes wear of the pieces and sometimes pain of them.

What does it originate?

It is closely related to stress, nervousness, joint dysfunction, cervical, cranial, postural problems, sleep disorder, etc…

How is it treated?

Through manual and osteopathic therapy, at the level of ATMs, cranial, cervical and even posture. In Vitalys Center we also have the latest technology such as diathermy that will help reduce pain, inflammation and regenerate tissues thanks to its great biostimulating effect.

Stiff Neck

What is it?

Torticollis is a muscle spasm maintained over time. The cervical musculature is involved, specifically sternocleidomastoid, angular scapula and / or scalenes that causes a very acute pain with great mobility limitation.

What does it originate?

It is not known 100%, but it seems to be related to poor postures maintained, such as sleeping in bed or a sharp turn of the neck. It is very common in both children and adults.

How is it treated?

Through the use of manual therapy, dry puncture osteopathy and diathermy, managing to relax the musculature and introduce the relevant bone corrections. We also have the Triton DTS stretcher, highly indicated in these cases.

Dizziness and vertigo

What is it?

They are periods of disturbance of balance or dizziness caused by changes in the position of the head. Of all the dizzy patients, 20% present dizziness.

What does it originate?

Alterations of the inner ear, cranioencephalic traumatisms. whiplash, etc., although half of the cases are of idiopathic origin.

How is it treated?

Currently there are several manual therapy techniques that are effective within physiotherapy. The use of one or the other will depend on the results obtained in a thorough examination of the patient.

Headaches

What are they?

It is a pathology that presents with a headache, this pain can be tensional at times, most of it, and in others due to stress, emotional or nutritional problems, the so-called migraines.

What does it originate?

There can be two causes: Headache secondary to different diseases and conditions or that the headache is the main cause itself. In this case we can have different origins:

Referred pain of the dorsal and cervical musculature, such as chewing muscles.
Referred pain of cranial structures, either the own musculature or the cranial sutures.
Bad postures at work or at home that lead to osteoarticular injuries.
Pain related to the menstrual period.

How is it treated?

We will treat them through manual therapy in structures that can cause symptoms (head, neck and face muscles, fasciae, organs), craniosacral therapy and we also have the latest technology such as diathermy and the Triton DTS stretcher, highly indicated in these pathologies.

Cervical Pain

What is it?

It is the pain perceived by the patient in any area of the cervical region, including the front of the neck and shoulders. It is a very common pathology, so much so that 70% of the population has suffered or will suffer once in a lifetime.

What does it originate?

There are several factors that can cause neck pain:

Bad postures.
Bad occlusion of the jaw.
Vision problems.
Traumatisms (whiplash).
Visceral problems.
Rheumatic diseases such as arthritis or ankylosing spondylitis.

How is it treated?

In our center VitalysCenter the treatment will be global. We will use techniques of manual therapy, myofascial induction, osteopathy, EPI, as well as stretching and exercises guided by our physiotherapists and trainers.

Muscle Contracts

What are they?

They are a strong and maintained contraction of the muscle fibers that produces local pain and even pain referred to other neighboring areas such as head, jaw, etc.

What does it originate?

The cervical contractures originates from multiple causes:

Due to an effort.
Positions maintained and prolonged.
Repetitive movements.
Lack of activity and sedentary lifestyle.
Stress and anxiety.
Poor nutrition and hydration.

How is it treated?

In our center VitalysCenter the treatment will be global, through manual techniques, osteopathy, cervical mobility and guided exercises associated with stretching.

Cervicobraquialgia

What is it?

It is an affectation that involves a pain in the cervical area and that goes down to the arm.

What does it originate?

It can be originated by:

Traumatic injuries such as fractures, whiplash or muscle tears.
Degenerative conditions such as arthrosis or disc hernias.
Acute emotional states such as anxiety and depression.
Genetic malformation of the spine.
Compression of a nerve by a contracted muscle.

How is it treated?

Through manual therapy in the cervical region, stretching of the musculature and nervous system (neurodynamics), cervical mobility and osteopathic techniques.

Cervical Whiplash

What is it?

It consists of a sudden movement of the entire cervical spine. In this movement the neck goes back sharply to then bounce forward mimicking the movement that occurs when shaking a whip, hence its name. This non-physiological movement can produce an injury to the structures that make up this region of the spine, such as ligaments, vertebrae, muscle groups or intervertebral discs, among others.

What does it originate?

In 95% the cause is a traffic accident in which the affected person is hit by the back of his car or by the side.

How is it treated?

In the first phases we will perform different manual therapy techniques to relax all the affected cervical muscles along with neck mobility. We will also use technology such as diathermy, osteopathy and we will work on the nervous plexus with neurodynamic techniques.

Mandibular Crunch

What is it?

This is defined as the creaking of the jaw when opening or closing the mouth due to a subluxation of the TMJ on one side or the other.

What does it originate?

Bad habits when eating, chewing gum, direct trauma or small traumas that are perpetuated over time as well as bad postures including hypermobility are the most common causes.

How is it treated?

A reduction of the subluxation is carried out by osteopathic manual therapy, after assessment and differential diagnosis with osteoarthritis, synovitis, etc.

Neuralgy of the Trigemin

What is it?

Trigeminal neuralgia is a pathology of V cranial nerve or trigeminal nerve, which is responsible for the sensibility of sensitivity, touch and pain of the face, eyes, paranasal, jaw, mouth, which courses with a lot of pain in these areas. Many patients have been suffering from desperate painful symptoms on the face for years that do not stop or are recruited seasonally.

What possible origin can it have?

Sometimes the diagnosis by image shows injuries that affect the nerve. But often, there is no medical cause that justifies the symptomatology. However, there are important points for me and osteopaths in which the nerve can be compressed and pathology can occur.

How do we treat it?

In our center VitalysCenter uses the most current techniques of manual therapy, which have a high efficiency in the lowering and regularization of painful symptoms, achieving on many occasions the totalization of healing. It is a comprehensive treatment that includes osteopathy, manual therapy, diathermy and our Triton DTS traction stretcher.
